- Heat oven to 350°F. 2. Grease a baking dish. 3. Place half the bread in the bottom. 4. Add half the apples. 5. Sprinkle with half the sugar and spices. 6. Repeat the layers. 7. Dot the top with butter. 8. Pour water around the edges. 9. Cover and bake for 30 minutes. 10 . Remove the cover and bake another 15–20 minutes, until the apples are tender and the top is browned.

This was an excellent way to use inexpensive apples and stale bread instead of letting either go to waste.
